The Searching Is the Work. 🌹

I’ve been learning that I am drawn more to the searching than the resolution.

My lines wander, repeat, and discover. My paintings emerge through movement, interruption, and instinct. I don’t want to describe everything. I want to leave room for the viewer to recognize something within the abstraction and experience the feeling that brought the work into being.

This painting began with a familiar Coke bottle, a handful of roses, and memories of someone we love.

Lately, I’ve been feeling particularly sentimental about the ordinary things we associate with the people in our lives. The objects, colors, and little moments that become something much more meaningful with time.

I work quickly because I trust the immediacy of that connection. When I slow down, I sometimes begin replacing instinct with control. I’m learning that not every mark needs to be resolved, and not every painting needs to explain itself.

Sometimes the searching is enough.

My work is finished when the feeling is.
